Fit This Skin is about insecurity and imposter syndrome, and that weird disconnect between how other people see you and what’s actually going on in your head.

I can be confident. I can walk into a room, talk to people, do what I’m there to do and probably look like I’ve got everything under control. At the same time, there can be a part of me quietly wondering whether I actually belong there at all.

The song came from that feeling. Trying to fit in, second guessing yourself and looking at everyone else thinking they’ve somehow figured something out that you haven’t.

Musically, it’s a step on from Never Coming Back. It’s faster, more energetic and more direct, but it still has the quieter moments, big guitars and atmosphere that I want Morning Colour to have.

morning colour

Morning Colour is an independent emo and alternative project from Manchester, created by James Glenn.

It started as a place to write songs without worrying too much about where they fit. There’s a lot of emo in there, some shoegaze, alternative rock and post hardcore, but the main thing has always been the songs themselves. Quiet parts can stay quiet, loud parts can get properly loud, and if something feels right it doesn’t need to fit neatly into a genre.

Everything is written and recorded independently, with influences ranging from Movements and Jimmy Eat World to Nothing, Slow Joy, Thrice and Alexisonfire.

After debut single Never Coming Back, Fit This Skin arrives on 23 October 2026. It’s faster and more immediate than the first release, but still comes from the same place. Honest songs, big guitars, and probably far too much time spent getting them exactly right.
